Discover Hidden Mountain Charms and Original Tujia Customs on a 4-Day Zhangjiajie Exploration Trip
Group: Travellers from Portugal Tour Type: Quiet mountain sunrise & authentic Tujia village cultural tour
We are travellers from Portugal. We have long dreamed of seeing the fantastic sandstone mountain landscapes of China after watching many documentaries about Zhangjiajie. We wanted to avoid crowded mainstream tourist hotspots and take our time to explore genuine local culture, quiet mountain trails and traditional Tujia villages. After comparing multiple travel plans, we chose this 4-day private tour package. The total cost is about 510 USD per person. This price covers comfortable private vehicle transfers throughout the whole trip, an experienced local English-speaking guide, all entrance fees for scenic spots and museums, as well as daily breakfast. It does not include our personal dinners, snacks, handmade souvenirs and optional activity fees. We think the price is reasonable for a small private group tour, as we can enjoy flexible schedules without rushing with large tour groups.

Day 1: Arrival & Tujia Folk Garden
We touched down at Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport in the early afternoon. Our guide and driver met us and transferred us to a peaceful resort near Wulingyuan. After settling in, we visited the Tujia Folk Garden. We watched traditional Tujia dance performances, explored stilt-house exhibitions and learned about local minority customs. We sampled homemade cured meat and corn wine for dinner. We packed warm layers for tomorrow’s early sunrise trip.

Day 2: Laowuchang & Sky Fields
We got up before dawn and headed for Laowuchang, a less crowded secret viewing spot famous for sunrise over the peak forest. We watched golden sunlight spill over thousands of sandstone pillars and the stunning “Sky Fields” terraced farmlands built on the mountaintop. The morning mist drifted slowly among the peaks. In the afternoon we hiked Yaozizhai, a quiet primitive forest trail deep inside the national park, away from busy tourist routes. The air was fresh and filled with wild plants.

Day 3: Ten-Mile Gallery & Zhangjiajie Geopark Museum
We visited Ten-Mile Gallery in the morning. We rode the sightseeing small train along the valley and admired vivid rock formations shaped like legendary figures and wild animals. We stopped many times for photos along the quiet trail. In the afternoon we visited the Zhangjiajie Geopark Museum. The exhibits explained the geological formation of these unique quartz sandstone peaks. We gained a deeper understanding of how nature carved this amazing landscape over millions of years. In the evening we enjoyed a relaxed walk through old Wulingyuan local market to see ordinary daily life of local residents.

Day 4: Daxiong Ancient Village & Departure
Early in the morning we travelled to Daxiong Ancient Village, a preserved ancient Tujia settlement hidden in the mountains. We wandered stone lanes, visited old ancestral halls and chatted with local villagers. We tried hand-making Tujia glutinous rice cakes. After lunch, our private car transferred us back to the airport. This quiet trip allowed us to escape crowded hotspots and discover authentic mountain scenery and real Tujia rural life.
