3-Day Zhangjiajie Travel Diary
I’m Chloe, a travel blogger from New Zealand. I travelled to Zhangjiajie with my two friends, so we are a group of 3 adults. We booked a 3-day pure play local tour. The package is cost-effective, including attraction tickets, accommodation, transfers and an English-speaking tour guide. There are zero hidden charges. Our guide Kai is thoughtful and knowledgeable. He told us many local legends and arranged our itinerary gently, so we could fully enjoy the magical sandstone peaks of Xiangxi.

Day 1: Arrival & Xibu Ancient Street Night Walk
We arrived in Zhangjiajie in the afternoon. Our guide picked us up and drove us to our hotel in Wulingyuan. After checking in, we strolled around Xibu Ancient Street. We tasted local Tujia food like Sanxia Guo. Colourful lanterns decorated the whole street, and we experienced the quiet night vibe of western Hunan. We went to bed early to save energy for tomorrow’s mountain hike.

Day 2: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park – Avatar’s Hallelujah Mountain & Tianzi Mountain
Full day at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. We took the Bailong Elevator up to Yuanjiajie. When the elevator opened, we saw the famous Hallelujah Mountain, the prototype from the movie Avatar. We walked along the cliff trails and admired the First Bridge Under Heaven. In the afternoon, we headed to Tianzi Mountain. Thousands of sharp stone pillars stood in the mist. The sea of clouds rolled between peaks, the view was absolutely stunning. We took plenty of photos together.

Day 3: Tianmen Mountain – Cable Car, Glass Skywalk & Tianmen Cave
Today we visited Tianmen Mountain. We boarded the world-famous long cable car to the mountain top. We walked along the glass skywalk attached to the steep cliff, it was thrilling yet amazing. Then we visited Tianmen Cave, the huge natural cave through the mountain. We overlooked the famous 99-bend Tongtian Highway below. After finishing the sightseeing, our guide transferred us back to the hotel. Our 3-day adventure came to a happy end.

Final Thoughts & Travel Tips
Travelling in a small group of 3 was really comfortable.
Wear supportive walking shoes, you will hike a lot.
Bring a lightweight rain jacket; mountain weather can change quickly.
Carry enough drinking water and some snacks.
Stay on marked paths and follow your guide’s safety advice.
We really appreciate our guide Kai. He took care of every detail for our small team. This three-day trip to Zhangjiajie left us wonderful memories of China’s breathtaking natural scenery.
