I have long heard that Zhangjiajie in China has the most otherworldly mountain scenery on Earth. After seeing countless photos and movie clips, I finally got to visit this amazing place in person. These two days in Zhangjiajie were relaxing, breathtaking, and absolutely unforgettable.

Day 1: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park & Avatar Mountains

•Early in the morning, I entered Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The air was fresh, humid, and filled with the scent of trees. It felt like walking into a huge natural oxygen bar. I took the scenic shuttle bus and headed straight for the Bailong Elevator, also known as the Hundred Dragons Sky Elevator. It only took around one minute to climb over 300 meters vertically. Standing inside the glass elevator, I watched the forest valleys and strange stone peaks spread out below me, and I was truly stunned by the view.

•After reaching the top, I arrived at Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, the real shooting location of the movie Avatar. The towering Qiankun Pillar, also called the Hallelujah Mountain, stands alone in the valley. Countless steep, slender stone peaks rise straight from the ground, covered with green trees. Soft mist drifted among the mountains, making the peaks look like they were floating in the air. The scenery felt magical and surreal, just like being on an alien planet.

•I walked slowly along the mountain plank road and enjoyed the peaceful landscape. I visited the world’s largest natural stone bridge and admired the layered peaks stretching far into the distance. The mountains were quiet, with only bird songs and gentle wind. All my stress from city life disappeared instantly. In the afternoon, I traveled to Yangjiajie and saw the unique “Natural Great Wall” stone ridges. The continuous rows of peaks looked grand and powerful under the clear sky.

•In the evening, I went down the mountain and tried local Xiangxi food. The Tujia three-pot stew was rich, spicy, and full of special local flavor. The fresh mountain vegetables tasted clean and healthy. The small town at the foot of the mountain was quiet and cozy. It was a perfect and peaceful first day in Zhangjiajie.

Day 2: Tianmen Mountain & Cloud View Adventure

•On the second day, I visited Tianmen Mountain, known as “the First Holy Mountain of Xiangxi”. I took the long cable car to the peak. As the cable car climbed higher, the city view faded away, and endless green mountains and sea of clouds appeared in front of my eyes. Riding above the clouds felt like flying in the sky.

•After landing on the top, I walked on the famous glass skywalk. Standing on transparent glass with deep valleys beneath my feet was thrilling and exciting. The mountain wind brushed my face, and the panoramic view of rolling peaks and misty valleys was absolutely spectacular. I also walked along the cliff plank road and enjoyed the quiet mountain scenery.

•The most incredible spot today was Tianmen Cave, a huge natural cave piercing through the mountain. When the wind blew, white fog flowed through the giant cave, creating a fairyland-like scene. Standing in front of it, I could truly feel the greatness and magic of nature.

Final Thoughts

Before leaving, I felt really reluctant to say goodbye. Zhangjiajie is not just scenery—it is a natural miracle. In just two days, I saw strange peaks, sea of clouds, green forests, and pure mountain air. This trip has become one of my most precious travel memories. I truly believe Zhangjiajie is the most beautiful fairyland on Earth.
